Staff Supervision in Residential Care

Residential Care Program Managers know that first level supervisors are the most important staff in their agency. They are the guardians of the agency's mission.

Too often, first level supervisors have little actual experience in supervising employees. For the most part, they are individuals who were excellent line staff and were promoted. Supervising clients and supervising the staff who care for clients are two different things.

To be successful, agencies must equip their supervisors with the knowledge and skills to supervise. Steve Laidacker, Senior JKM Instructor, has developed this 3-day workshop for both new and experienced residential care supervisors. Issues to be explored include: Making the transition from line staff to supervisor, basic supervisory skills, handling problem employees, effective supervisory communication and goal setting for individuals and teams. This program covers the basics of supervision in a residential care program.

"Overall, this seminar was great. Mr. Laidacker does a great job in his trainings and I always enjoy seminars that he leads. I think the strongest feature was changing our view to "outside of the box". The position of supervisor became a lot clearer and working with subordinates with different personalities became a lot easier. I would recommend this training to any supervisor and look forward to future trainings. ~ Robert Fowler, Training Coordinator
