SCM Evidence Here are the results from our 2008 year end survey provided by organizations currently using the SCM Training Program. 1. Average daily population served over the past year:
Note: Youth Multi-Service = Organizations reported serving a combination of youth community based, residential and/or juvenile justice. Adult Multi-Service = Organizations reported serving both adult community based and adult residential. 2. Total number of service days over the past year:
Note: Service Days = Daily population x annual days of service. 3. Number of documented behavior incidents (incidents requiring documentation including harm to self or others) over the past year:
4. Incidents per service day:
5. Number of behavior incidents resolved with physical intervention over the past year:
Note: Many organizations reported the same number for both questions, (“The number of behavior incidents” and “The number of behavior incidents resolved with physical intervention”), indicating that they either did not understand the question or are only recording data on incidents requiring physical intervention. 6. Restraints per service day:
7. Individuals involved in at least 5 or more incidents over the past year:
Note: A total of 118 individuals were involved in 5 or more incidents requiring physical intervention which represents at a minimum 590 physical interventions. Of the overall total number of incidents requiring physical intervention (3379) reported, at least 18% (or more) were the result of 118 individuals in the overall daily population of all reporting organizations. 8. The minimum percentage of physical interventions attributed to individuals involved in 5 or more physical interventions:
9. Average duration of physical intervention over the past year (in minutes):
10. Total number of injuries to “individuals served” (requiring medical follow-up) related to physical intervention over the past year:
11. Total number of injuries to staff (requiring medical follow-up) related to physical intervention over the past year:
12. What are the total number of abuse incidents alleged and founded in relationship to SCM over the past year:
Note: Of the 8 founded cases of abuse in 2008 – 5 were reported from one organization or 63 13. Have workman’s compensation claims increased, decreased, or stayed the same in relation to SCM: Increased: 2.6% Decreased: 29% Stayed the same: 68.4%
The survey results should not be taken as scientific data. Rather, the results are responses from schools and agencies that have a data collection process and that took the time to respond. Many schools and agencies do not collect the aggregate data that allows for easy response. |
