SCM is more comprehensive in its theory, prevention, non-physical, physical and post incident counseling than other programs.
SCM is based on solid principles of human growth and development and safe physical intervention.
SCM emphasizes strength based non-physical intervention. We want to reduce the frequency of physical interventions.
SCM teaches how to use the “Least Restrictive Alternative” in working with problem behavior.
The SCM Instructor Training Program is a rigorous, five-day learning experience during which participants are exposed to the theory and management scheme, non-physical and physical, that is the core of SCM. Participants will be exposed to a variety of supportive information and concepts central to providing instruction in SCM. Successful completion of the program is contingent on passing both a written test and a physical skills test. Participants will receive a manual that provides a model curriculum for SCM staff training, which contains lesson plans, handouts and activities for each concept presented in the SCM participant’s workbook. In addition, it contains information on conducting staff refresher trainings, and a CD Rom which includes the SCM Staff Training slideshow and SCM physical interventions video.
